I made these fun metalwork earrings from copper tiles salvaged from the 100+ year old roof of the old Tacoma City Hall building with carnelian smooth rondelle beads - riveted in place - and faceted green fancy Jasper bead dangles. The natural patina - verdigris green on the weathered side and deeply oxidized on the other - is original; hammering compresses and polishes it, giving it this marvelous enameled look. It's a distressed finish, with the old copper showing through the green verdigris in places; the exposed copper along the cut edges is a lovely contrast, brightening the whole look. The front and back are sealed with Renaissance Wax to preserve the patina.
These wonderful old copper dangles hang from ornate copper ear wires via copper rings and connectors. Drop length is about 1-3/4 inches. Nice and light, too!
Photographed on my life-size photographic ear model to illustrate the size.
Note: This is old, old metal. To keep it looking its best, do not wear while swimming, bathing or sleeping. Do not use polishing compounds, dips or cloths. If they get dirty, wipe gently with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly. And please don't let them rattle around in a jewelry box with a bunch of other jewelry; no jewelry likes that, I assure you. Treat them with care and they will last for many generations.
